A few words about the " Association Vésale " .....

The " Association Vésale ", created in 1984, aims to encourage Clinical Research, an essential link between bedside medicine and Fundamental Research.

The " Association Vésale " annually allocates encouragement grants to the brightest young researchers at St-Peter Hospital.  These grants allow them to start work and eventually access larger grants awarded by Institutional Research Funds.

Since 1988, the " Association Vésale " has set itself the objective of supporting the activity of medical research within the St-Peter University Hospital Center.

It strives to find sponsorship and personalities wishing to support this activity, a financial contribution allowing it to achieve its objectives.  The Association's main mission is to promote clinical medical research.  This type of scientific research aims to use the constant advances in basic research, to apply them to the problems posed by the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

Currently, research activity at St-Peter Hospital is mainly focused on a series of diseases and medical problems of major importance, which are partly listed below:

  • assisted procreation methods,

  • serious infectious diseases and in particular sexually transmitted infections and those which, like AIDS, impair immune resistance,

  • endocrine, nutritional and metabolic diseases as well as degenerative disorders linked to aging and osteoporosis,

  • epidemiological and biochemical studies of endemic and sporadic goiter,

  • the diagnosis, emergency treatment and functional rehabilitation of patients with severe coronary and pulmonary diseases,

  • the study of morphological and biological abnormalities in ocular pathology,

  • advanced techniques in emergency surgery,

  • the optimization of long-term infusion treatment in operated or seriously ill patients unable to eat,

  • the protection of children subjected to abuse,

  • diagnostic methods based on three-dimensional visualization of organs in radiology and nuclear medicine,

  • research and development of the production of blood derivatives as well as transfusion medicine,

  • the care and treatment of drug addicts,

  • diabetes,

  • cataracts,

  • child abuse,

  • cirrhosis and its complications,

  • cardiac revalidation,

  • .........

Under the impetus of various personalities from academia, business and politics, it strives to find from public and private sponsorship, a financial contribution allowing it to grant scholarships of 5,000 to 10,000 €.

The " Association Vésale " has allocated annually since its creation, from 12,500 to 106,000€ in grants for the best clinical research work.
The laureates were appointed by an Interuniversity Scientific Commission on the basis of the quality and clinical interest of their research project.

The grants reward the projects of young researchers integrated, within the framework of their specialization, into the medical teams of the UHC, aiming to resolve specific matters raised by the patients treated at the Hospital.

The purpose of our letter is to solicit  so that, through financial aid, you participate in the allocation of a one or two year scholarship to a young research doctor selected by an Interuniversity Scientific Commission.

The main objective of the " Association Vésale " is to give young doctors, the most gifted of the St-Peter Hospital research teams, the opportunity to acquire, as part of their specialization, extensive training in the field of basic sciences.

Only maintaining this openness to advanced fundamental techniques can ensure the continuation of high-level medical research without losing its orientation towards direct application for the benefit of patients.

Since 1988, the " Association Vésale " has awarded 270 scholarships for an amount of 2,096,438 €.

Among these laureates,
many researchers have pursued an Academic or University career and currently occupy positions of Head of Clinic.
